The Neale bask in their first taste of glory

I was in the Neale last Sunday morning for an u15 semi-final and there, taking pride of place, was the Pete Mc Donnell junior cup sitting on top of the gated entrance to the field. There were many gravelly, tired sounding, voices in the small compact stand, which is very understandable considering this was their first and only adult title of their 110 year history and no doubt a long night of celebrations had taken place.

St James joined Salthill in the Galway Senior Football Championship quarter-finals with a hard earned 1-10 to 0-8 victory over Caltra on Saturday evening in Tuam Stadium.

Many GAA people in the county were not pleased with Mountbellew/Moylough’s decision to engage in a lengthy appeal process after their defeat to Micheal Breathnach’s. They had been defeated twice, and the feeling was that they could have accepted their lot and moved on.

Following the exciting 1-11 to 2-8 drawn game last weekend in the county football championship between Cortoon-Shamrocks and Mountbellew/Moylough, the county board will be hoping for a big crowd at the replay which takes place this Sunday in Tuam Stadium (4.15pm).

These sides met four weeks ago in the league over in Caltra and Cortoon won by two points, 1-10 to 1-8. Expect another tight game on Sunday.
